9 - Gotcha! The Sport (NES)

This is one of the few games that I have owned that utilized a Light Gun of some sort, as well as my first foray into the adrenaline filled world of paintball. In Gotcha the gamer has the task of traversing a series of levels, such as a forest and a city while keeping an eye out for enemy combatants. The overall point of the game is to fight your way through the various levels trying to collect the opposite team's flag, then blasting your way back to your home flag... easer said than done.

Gotcha is a two-player game with each player on opposing teams. The players attempt to steal each other’s flag while avoiding enemy fire. The single player mode allows for co-operative game play, one player can theoretically navigate the level while the other can focus on steadying his or her gun, an excellent addition for those with shaky shooting hands like myself.

When compared to the games released today, Gotcha is a bit of an oddity in that you are shooting people with harmless paintballs, nobody actually dies. However, if you can overcome this massive letdown, or pretend that the red paint covering your opponent is actually blood hemorrhaging out from a vicious gunshot wound, then you got yourself one hell of a fun game.
